International Ministry

When Camp began in 2001, it quickly became very evident that it was a good way to connect with the large International community in Nairobi.   Ex-patriates come from every continent and work for embassies, the United Nations, non-government agencies, and corporations.  Also, there are a large number of British settlers from the colonial era who continue to call Kenya home.  These communities are generally financially prosperous, but spiritually dry.

Is there a church for the International community?
Several of our team members are working closely with a local church that has been planted to reach the International community.  By serving on the leadership team, developing the small group program, leading the children’s program, and running youth groups for middle and high school students, our team is able to partner with this church in reaching the International community.

Who are we currently working with within the International Community?
Currently, our full time team is primarily working with students, building relationships throughout the year that started at camp.  By leading youth group for both middle and high school students, we are able to connect with kids on a deeper level.  As we work with students who do not know Jesus, we are able to plug students who are looking to understand what it means to have a relationship with Christ into the Church and youth group.

How would we like to see this ministry grow in the future?
The entire International community needs Christ, not just the students.  As our team grows we would love to see people working with young adults and families.  Please pray that the Lord would bring people to our team who share our burden to see this community come to Christ.  If you would like to pursue joining our team in seeking to reach the International community, please contact us for more information.

Jenny is one of the students who has come into a relationship with Christ through our student ministry program.  Four years ago, as an 8th grader at the international school, one of our team members asked her what she believed.  Her answer was, “Well, my dad’s Catholic, my Mom’s Buddhist, and I’m starting to believe in the power of crystals.”  After the conversation, our team member was baffled and even more convinced that these kids desperately need Jesus.  Today, Jenny has a relationship with Jesus Christ, is an active member of the youth group, and is often involved in conversations with her peers that allow her to share Christ.  Jenny’s story illustrates the importance of being involved in relational ministry over time.  Our team is committed to being a constant presence in students lives, showing them Christ and praying that the Lord would save them.
